‘I never had a face to face conversation with her, yet I knew every single detail of her life.’
Stalking. The word brings to mind strangers crouching in the dark, rooms covered in covert photographs taken without the subject’s knowledge. But what do we really know about it? According to Merriam-Webster, it’s defined as ‘the act or crime of willfully and repeatedly following or harassing another person…’ and data from the Crime Survey of England (2006) estimates that 5 million people experience stalking each year- however, there is less information on those who are behind this obsessive behaviour.
This young woman reached out to WDAT, wanting to share her experiences. She wrote to me with the intent of ‘clearing her name’ and also with the desire to help anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
As one of the changes to WDAT, I decided it would be beneficial to include articles on the lesser known mental health issues. As the debut of the ‘Spotlight Series’, this piece is centred on Capgras Syndrome.
‘The intrusive thoughts are the worst…constant images of friends suffering…’
Today’s Interview is Focussed on: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Insomnia.
I planned to ‘revamp’ We Don’t Talk About That at the beginning of June – needless to say, I’m a little late. However, I just want to thank everyone who encouraged me to throw myself back into WDTAT and since doing so, I hadn’t realised how much I missed it! Already there are interviews scheduled (the first one going live at 6:00pm tonight) as well as the first of a new series of information articles, or ‘Spotlights’ focused on the lesser known mental issues.
I can’t wait to start listening to, and sharing, more incredible stories, while learning all the time about the rarer conditions diagnosed as well.
As always, the Contact Form is available to anyone looking to have their voice heard – so please feel welcome to drop me a message if you’d like to be interviewed, or if you’d like to see an article on a specific issue. I hope to hear from some of you!
Stay Safe,
‘It’s sitting in front of a mirror and wanting to tear yourself apart…’
Today’s Interview is Focussed on: Body Dysmorphia.
Hello readers,
I can’t apologise enough for my absence, both to the people who follow the blog and to those who contribute. My own life has been nothing short of chaotic recently, and sadly I’ve just not had time to work as hard as I’d have liked on projects such as this one. However, this is not a goodbye message, this is a ‘I’m back and this blog isn’t going anywhere’ message. I’m already working through the stories which have been submitted, and so there will be more content up soon.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
‘it takes strength to say ‘I can’t deal with this alone right now’’
On WDTAT, a range of mental health issues are discussed, each one provokes a unique set of challenges. In many of the interviews, one of the first questions asked, is when did they begin to worry? The answers have ranged from ‘a sense of always knowing’, to a sudden, often traumatic, episode. Some people assume that to ask for help, things have to be at their very worst, but that’s really not the case. In fact, like with many physical ailments, the earlier a problem is talked about, the smoother the course to treatment. In so many cases, people don’t think about looking for help, as they don’t think they’re somehow ‘ill’ enough, so I thought I would try to create a list, one which is by no-means complete, of signs to look out for, that may show perhaps it’s time to reach out. Welcome 2018…🎉🎈🎉
Here on WDTAT, the focus tends to be on the darker parts of life, but today I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year, and I sincerely hope 2018 is everybody’s year. And while the ‘new year, new me’ idea is somewhat mocked, I’m a firm believer in the power of turning over a new leaf, and in changing the aspects which no longer are working for you, while celebrating the parts you love.
So I hope everyone has a brilliant start to 2018, and hopefully the coming year will be a lot less stressful than 2017!
Stay Safe,
